Someday we are going to take a vacation that is relaxing and rejuvenating, a vacation that you do not need to take a vacation from! The kind of vacation that people come here to 10 Fitch for… to unwind, rest, decompress & de-stress. I don’t know when “someday” is but in the mean time, we’ll enjoy & be thankful for the trips that do take us away from work and our daily routine even if it is jam packed with travel & activities, travel & tours, travel & scheduled group dinners etc. because those are the kinds of vacations that we are blessed to go on each year through the company that my husband Rodney works for.
I know that I probably didn’t sound too thankful as I started writing this but I truly am. We have been to some wonderful places and have done some amazing things on these trips over the years including an Alaskan cruise and flying in a tiny sea plane over the glaciers to land in a remote area where we had a fresh caught salmon barbecue lunch at Taku Lodge and saw a black bear up close when he came into the camp and licked the grill clean where our salmon were just grilled, and Cancun Mexico where we had fish tacos for the first time and sat out on our balcony every night just listening to the surf and watching the waves lap the shore, and San Fransisco where we rode the trolley, toured Alcatraz and spent endless hours walking around down on Fisherman’s Warf where the world famous “bush man” got me at least 3 times! We’ve been to Hawaii, Montana, on a Disney Caribbean Cruise, New York City and many other great places. This year our trip was Boston & Ireland and we took my mom & my in-laws with us.
While in Boston we hooked up a tour of the Newport Rhode Island Mansions, which were the summer “cottages” of the rich and famous in the late 1800’s early 1900’s. We toured two of them, the Breakers and the Marble House, both Vanderbilt homes. Just incredible! The architecture and craftsmanship of these amazing homes is unbelievable. We were not allowed to take photos inside but I did get some of the exteriors.
The next day we went whale watching… saw a LOT of whales… a couple swam very close to the boat but I stunk at the photo taking that day. Here’s a few. Top one is my mother in-law, Barb (pink coat), my mom Sally, & my father in-law Pat poised with his camera ready to capture the whales on film.
The following day Rodney went golfing and mom, mom & I went shopping. Pat rested 🙂 Then we flew to Ireland! From the airport in Dublin we had a 5 hour bus ride to our destination, the Europe Hotel in Killarney, with a stop midway for breakfast. Finally we arrived! Here is a photo of our room and the view.
I had to wait until after 10PM to capture the above photo of the sunset our first night in Killarney! took the photo above from the balcony of our room.
Another shot from the balcony.
The day after our arrival we hopped on yet another bus to spend the day touring the Ring Of Kerry
Here are just a few photos of the spectacular countryside that I shot.
The following day…. yup, you guessed it,another tour! This time, the Gap of Dunloe For this tour we first took a 7 mile Trap and pony ride through the Purple Mountains into the black valley where we had lunch and then set out in boats for an hour and a half trip across the Killarney lake to Ross Castle, where we hopped back on the bus which took us back to the hotel.
