Although we are native New Yorkers, Mother’s Day weekend 2007 my husband Rodney & I came to the Finger Lakes area for the very first time. We came in search of the perfect bed & breakfast. We were on a quest to become innkeepers and had set up appointments to look at 5 different inns in the region, including 10 Fitch.
It was an absolutely gorgeous drive on 20 from Albany. It seemed like every mile we drove beauty was unfolding before us, rolling hills covered in emerald green, sparkling lakes, quaint little villages and towns. The weather that weekend was wonderful, lots of sun and mild temperatures. Our first night we stayed at Yale Manor on Seneca Lake, a beautiful property with lovely owners. The second night we stayed at 10 Fitch. When we walked through the front door I felt like I was coming home! The rest, as they say, is history.
But the whole reason for mentioning the weather that Mother’s Day weekend in 07 is because after buying 10 Fitch we heard from several people that there had actually been snow on Mother’s Day before! Snow on Mother’s Day? We thought they were kdding. Well, ok, so maybe that did occur but it was a fluke….right?
Well, as shown by the photo above of our Koi pond in the back yard, another fluke took place this Mothers Day. But, a few days makes a big difference. Just this morning, 5 days after waking up to snow on the ground, I took took this picture. Maybe spring IS finally here!
10 Fitch, your romantic escape in NY states beautiful Finger Lakes region.
