Jan. 9th – Owl Prowl, Sterling Nature Center, 15380 Jenzvolt Road, Sterling, NY. Come to the Sterling Nature Center and learn more about Owls. Nesting season has begun for the great horned owls. Join Naturalist Jim D’Angelo for an indoor introduction to the great-horned owl and other New York State owls. Then venture out on an owl prowl looking and listening for the nocturnal kings of the sky. Jan. 9th – Wine and Movie Night, Treleaven, 658 Lake Road, King Ferry, NY. Treleaven Movie Nights are back! With a glass of wine or craft beer in hand, and some movie theatre snacks to share, relax on our couches and watch movies on our big screen! Jan. 9th – Jan. 18th – Bargain Bash on the Seneca Lake Wine Trail. The Seneca Lake Wine Trail’s 2016 event season launches with our annual Bargain Bash! Unlike our other events, this week long sales event does not require tickets. Think of Bargain Bash as being like a big, Trail-wide spring cleaning, garage sale where the early bird gets the proverbial worm! Participating wineries take the opportunity to clean out their inventory and drop prices on select items consisting of everything from wine, to wine glasses, clothes and other retail items. Jan. 23rd – Sunset and Moonrise Walk, Sterling Nature Center, 15380 Jenzvolt Road, Sterling, NY. Today the sunsets at about the same time as the moon rises just a few minutes after 5PM. The Sterling Nature Center invites you to enjoy a nice winter hike encompassing these two celestial events. “Whooo” knows what you might see or hear during this twilight walk; owls, fox, deer, fisher, turkey or other creatures of the winter might be about. Even if we do not see any wildlife it will be an interesting way to observe the wetlands, woodlands and fields by the light of the setting sun and the rising full moon.
