May 14th – First Heritage Village Craft Beverage Expo, Heritage Village, 73 West Pulteney Street, Corning, NY. The event is a fundraiser for the Corning-Painted Post Historical Society, which operates Heritage Village, and will feature multiple tastings, a home brew competition, and a mix of live demonstrations, workshops and seminars. Ben Keene, managing editor for Beer Advocate Magazine, will be a guest speaker and will lead a discussion on the role brewing played during Colonial times, the landscape of craft brewing today, and the direction in which brewing might be headed. Everyone who attends the festival will receive a special handcrafted pottery drinking vessel made especially for the event by John Keddy, of Rocky Hill Pottery in Bath. Visitors also will have a chance to sample craft beverages from Keuka Brewing, Steuben Brewing, RailHead Brewing, Four Fights Distilling and other local craft beverage producers. May 14th – Auburn Public Theater presents: John Gorka, 8 Exchange Street, Auburn, NY. In 1991, Rolling Stone magazine called Gorka “the preeminent male singer-songwriter of what has been dubbed the New Folk Movement.” From New Jersey, John Gorka is a world-renowned singer-songwriter who got his start at a neighborhood coffeehouse in eastern Pennsylvania. John has graced the stage of Austin City Limits, Mountain Stage, etown and has appeared on CNN. His new song “Where No Monuments Stand” is featured in the upcoming documentary Every War Has Two Losers, about activist and Oregon Poet Laureate William Stafford.
