Valentine’s Day is right around the corner. Are you looking for Sweets for your Sweetheart? You’re in luck. From north to south in Cayuga County it seems like all roads lead to yummy goodness. Feb. 3rd – First Fridays, Downtown Auburn, NY. First Friday of the Month, 5-8pm. Museums, galleries, restaurants & shops host open houses with free live music, art exhibits & refreshments. Feb. 10th – Feb. 19th – Dutch Connection, George Eastman Museum, 900 East Ave., Rochester, NY. George Eastman ordered thousands of flowering bulbs every year for his house and gardens, and that tradition continues today with this annual exhibition at the George Eastman Museum. Eastman’s conservatory and palm house will be filled with spring color-throughout the show, more than three thousand tulips, hyacinths, daffodils, amaryllis, clivias, begonias, and azaleas in full bloom. Feb. 10th – Full Moon Walk, Sterling Nature Center, 15380 Jenzvold Road, Sterling, NY. 6pm -9pm. The night winter woodland gives you a different perspective of the natural world and a full moon is a perfect time to explore it. Whooo knows what we might see or hear during this full moon walk; owls, fox, deer, fisher, turkey or other creatures of the winter night. Even if we do not see any wildlife it will be an interesting way to observe the wetlands, woodlands and fields by the light of the full moon. Snowshoes will be available if needed. Feb. 11th – NY Ice Wine and Culinary Festival, Casa Larga Vineyards, 2287 Turk Hill Road, Fairport, NY. Come celebrate and experience New York State’s award-winning Ice Wines in the season that makes them possible – winter! Feb. 11th – Preferred Pairings, Seneca Lake Wine Trail, 2 North Franklin Street, Watkins Glen, NY. This is the Seneca Lake Wine Trail’s series of more intimate, smaller wine and food pairing events. Partnering with the Finger Lakes Cheese Trail, Preferred Pairings are a series of two, one day events, February 11 or March 11. Each participating winery will be matched up with a creamery, offering ticketed attendees 3-4 delicious pairings of regional cheese paired with our members’ wines. This series of events are co-sponsored by the Finger Lakes Cheese Alliance. Just check in and pick up your gift item at your chosen starting winery then start sampling cheeses paired with delicious award-winning wines. Feb. 11th – Chocolate and Wine, Sheldrake Point Winery on Cayuga Lake, 7448 County Road 153, Ovid, NY. This event will feature a flight of Sheldrake Point wine paired with a “flight” of chocolates from CaryMo Chocolate Candies and Confections. CaryMo handcrafts fine chocolates with love and good taste right here in the Finger Lakes. Delight in these pairings alongside Winemakers Dave Breeden and Julia Hoyle, and Chocolatier Cary Becraft. 20 seats available. $45 per person. Feb. 14th – Fox Run Vineyards Valentine’s Day Winemaker’s Dinner, 670 Route 14, Penn Yan, NY. Fox Run Vineyards will be hosting a Winemaker’s Dinner on Saturday, February 14th at 6 pm. Locally renowned Chef Brud Holland, a frequent Edible Finger Lakes blog contributor, has created a 5-course dinner menu infused with local ingredients and paired with Fox Run wines. Feb. 22nd and 25th – Snowshoe Hike, Sterling Nature Center, 15380 Jenzvold Road, Sterling, NY. Come explore the winter landscape on snowshoes. Learn how to navigate safely while wearing snowshoes and venture out into the winter world to observe signs of wildlife. If there isn’t enough snow for snowshoes we will still go for a winter hike to explore the fields and forests of the nature center. Feb. 25th – Annual Mardi Gras: Beads, Prizes and a Scavenger Hunt, Cayuga Lake Wine Trail, Get a taste for Bourbon Street, but with wine! Collect your beads as you travel the Trail sampling food and wine pairings. Compete in a scavenger hunt for a chance to win a mixed case of CLWT wine with chances to win prizes at each location. Saturday and Sunday 10:00 am – 5:00 pm, ALL 16 wineries are participating.
